The Sixth Harbinger

“The LORD is known by the judgment He executes; the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God.”

(Psalms 9:16-17)

Many Americans in and out of church have grown familiar with the name Jonathan Cahn, a Messianic Jew and author of The Harbinger and subsequent writings and prophetic claims, warning America of the coming judgment.

Not all agree with Cahn’s interpretation of Isaiah 9:10, a prophecy given Israel in the 8th century BC, as having relevancy to 21st century America. But this page is not an argument for or against the relevancy of Cahn’s assessment of Isaiah 9 to America. It is about whether God has sent “harbingers” of warning to America.

“Harbinger” is defined as a forerunner and / or  a precursor; someone or something which precedes and gives notice of the expected arrival of something else.

Genesis 19 tells of God’s giving warning to Lot of the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah: “…For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it.” So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city!”  The response of Lot’s family? Verse 19:14 says, “…to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking…”

History has proven that human beings do not take God at His word! Not in the Garden of Eden. Not in the days of Noah. Not in the history of Israel.

Ezekiel chapter 3 tells of God’s appointing of Ezekiel as a “harbinger”  to go out and warn the children of God (Eze 3:4) of the coming doom of Israel.

God foretells the response of Israel in verse 7: “…But the house of Israel will not listen to you, because they will not listen to Me; for all the house of Israel are impudent and hard-hearted…”

Ezekiel chapter 12 is especially intriguing. Verses 21 through 28 speak to a response of the warned who essentially say that “last days” are always “tomorrow”.

(Ezekiel 12:21-24) And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son of man, what is this proverb that you people have about the land of Israel, which says, ‘The days are prolonged, and every vision fails’? “Tell them therefore, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “I will lay this proverb to rest, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel.” But say to them, “The days are at hand, and the fulfillment of every vision. “For no more shall there be any false vision or flattering divination within the house of Israel.

Evidently, the House of Israel has had a “saying” among themselves, a phrase of self-reassurance. Wait til you see what God had to say about Israel’s false sense of well being. But, first…

…might the 21st century version of that “self-assuring” phrase of ancient Israel is now sound something like this? “God loves us soooooooo much and His grace endures forever. Those negative doom-sayers have been predicting since the days of John that the ‘end of the world’ is at hand…and it’s never been…and is probably a very long time from now!”

Check this out!! God said to Israel (somewhat paraphrased): “…those who have been saying this- that those times are far off!  Well, NEWS FLASH- no more will My Word be postponed. The time is upon you…” (Ezekiel 12:27-28)

From 593 through 586 B.C. Ezekiel faithfully relayed to his fellow Jews the stern, heart-rending, hope-crushing word of divine judgment: Because of all her sins, Jerusalem would fall!

The people said, “Maybe so…but not for a long time from now.”

God said, “…the time is upon you…”.

On Aug. 14, 586, the city and temple were burned!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!! What is God saying to us, today? Are we listening…or dismissing? Are we taking God at His word?

We who believe God believe the Scriptures concerning the immutability of God: “For I, the LORD, do not change…”God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Is God saying TODAY to the church and to America, “…that those times are no longer far off! No more will My Word be postponed. The time is upon you…”

Are these “harbingers”? Has God been warning America? Check out:
