QUESTION (11/12/2016): DOES GOD CHOOSE OUR LEADERS? As a Christian I have been taught that it is God who chooses the leaders of nations and the Scripture most often used is Daniel 2:21 which says “And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.” Does this verse mean that God does control who is in office of President of the United States?

ANSWER (11/12/2016): God is absolutely sovereign and “in control”. However, God’s being “in control” does not seem to mean that He dictates every action of humankind. As this relates to leaders, kings, and presidents of nations, I will provide a few Scriptural texts that hopefully will bring some clarity to to the role of God and the role of people in the choosing of leaders. Should be able to answer in more detail in a couple of days.

(11/13/2016) Expanded ANSWER:

We live in a nation whose Founding Fathers, who comprehended God’s sovereignty and His kindnesses,  sacrificed greatly in order to make sure that this nation would be different with regard’s to the selection of its highest leaders, that the citizens would be guaranteed the right to vote for its leaders.

Many Christians, out of confusion of understanding the Word of God, do not exercise their right to vote thinking that the Bible teaches that their vote is meaningless since, their understanding of the part of Daniel 4:25 that says that “…the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses…”

We need to understand that God who is sovereign and who is in control throughout all of the Bible demonstrates ALSO the attribute of His “permissiveness”. In other words, NOTHING happens outside of God’s control, and certain things happen as they are ALLOWED (in other words PERMITTED) by God. (Read more about what the Bible says about choosing leaders).

QUESTION (11/15/2016): WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH ABOUT “DEACONS”? I was asked to serve as a deacon in my church, and now have been ordained. I have long been familiar with the “customary” teaching of deacon qualification and ministry as taught Timothy by the Apostle Paul. As a long time student of Scripture, I have come to experience that there is much, much more depth to almost every Biblical topic than traditionally taught. Is there MORE on the subject of deacons and deacon ministry?

ANSWER (11/16/2016): You will not be disappointed. Concerning the teaching on deacons, check this out: About Deacons
